Book 3: “Death On Mt. Undenkhark!” Page 52
IGNORANCE IS BLISS
or
RESCUING THE RESCUERS
Greetings, most honored reader!
Ah, youth! That time of life when all things seem possible. But as one of your great commentators noted, “Youth is wasted on the young!” So much power, but so little wisdom. Youth consider themselves invincible, and death is but some fairy tale that happens to someone else. Our three young friends could certainly identify with these sentiments. It’s to be hoped, however, that they wise up soon. As their friend Darya warns, “You have no idea of the danger you’re in!”
That’s because both G.A. and Darya—neither of whom are spring chickens—know what they’re up against—vampires!—perhaps the most deadly of creatures on the entire Wyrld. The kids have done pretty well so far fighting Grocs and Ogres, but they’ve never gone against anything quite as horrible or nightmarish as a vampire. They’ll soon learn—if they survive the experience.
On top of that, they’re miles underground in a vast arena whose audience would like nothing better than to become part of the show, jumping over the wall and into the arena themselves for a little fun (hmm… perhaps much like your modern football or hockey fans?). Fighting hundreds of humanoids is much different than fighting a handful.
Lastly, and perhaps most painfully and unexpectedly, their erstwhile ally, the Thinker, interpreting his agreement quite literally with the Trio, has ordered Sgt. Mac to retreat, robbing Bryan and Nikki of his potent New Magic (i.e. his stone tank).
But thankfully, our young friends aren’t aware of any of this as they rush gleefully into battle to save their friend. Indeed, honored reader, ignorance is truly bliss!
Unfortunately, much of that ignorance is likely to be dispelled next week. Care to join me for watching the lesson?
Until then,
May Cognescentii blessings rain upon you!
